12-Month Access · Self-Paced · Online

A face-to-face formulation class can teach you how to make a product. Toks Natural Formulation School is designed to teach you how to formulate.

Instead of trying to absorb everything in a few hours or a single training day, you have 12 months of access to a structured formulation programme that you can study at your own pace, revisit whenever you need clarification, and use alongside your own practical formulation work.

The programme takes you from understanding the scalp, hair follicle and hair strand through ingredient selection, formulation calculations, preservation, pH, cleansing systems, conditioners, treatments, anhydrous products and targeted scalp formulations — before bringing everything together to teach you how to develop, evaluate and troubleshoot your own formulas.

This programme is for anyone who wants to formulate their own hair and scalp products — whether you’re starting a brand, currently mixing recipes without understanding why they work, or you’ve taken a one-day class and left with more questions than answers. It’s not built for people who only want a set of formulas to copy. It’s built for people who want to understand formulation well enough to develop their own.

Why Choose Toks Natural Formulation School?

Learn at your own pace

There is no pressure to understand an entire formulation class in one sitting. Pause, revisit and work through difficult concepts until they make sense.

Go back whenever you are formulating

Forgot how to calculate a percentage? Developing a conditioner and need to revisit emulsion systems? Troubleshooting a shampoo? Your classroom remains available throughout your 12-month access period.

Understand WHY — not just WHAT

You are not being trained to copy somebody else’s recipe. You will learn why ingredients are selected, what function they perform, how formulation systems are built and how to make informed formulation decisions yourself.

Theory and practical learning together

The school combines detailed written lessons, voice lessons, formulation handbooks, practical formula sheets, demonstrations and assessments so you are not relying on one method of learning.

Build formulas for your own brand

The objective is not for every student to leave making the same products. You will learn the framework needed to take a product idea, select an appropriate formulation system and begin developing formulas suited to your own product goals and brand.

Learn from wherever you are

Whether you are in Lagos, Abuja, London or anywhere else, you don’t need to travel, arrange accommodation or fit your learning into somebody else’s classroom timetable.

Support doesn’t end when the lesson finishes

Your online classroom contains the structured programme, while the private Telegram community gives you somewhere to continue the conversation, ask questions, discuss your formulation work and get guidance when you need it.

What You’ll Learn Inside Toks Natural Formulation School

This is a 12-module hair and scalp formulation programme designed to take you beyond simply following recipes. You will learn the science behind the products you are making, understand how different formulation systems work, and apply that knowledge through practical product formulation.

Module 1

Scalp, Follicle & Hair Growth Science

Learn how the scalp, hair follicle and hair growth cycle actually work. Understand the biological environment you are formulating scalp and hair-growth products for, so you can make better ingredient and product-development decisions.

Module 2

Understanding the Hair Strand

Learn what the hair strand is made of, how its structure affects the way products perform and what shampoos, conditioners, treatments, oils and leave-ins can realistically do to the hair fibre.

Module 3

Hair Type, Porosity & Product Needs

Understand hair type, porosity, density, strand diameter and elasticity — and learn how to use these characteristics to make better formulation decisions for different hair needs and textures.

Module 4

Formulation Foundations

Learn how to actually build a cosmetic formula using percentages, phases and ingredient functions. Understand how to calculate ingredients correctly, balance a formula to 100% and begin thinking like a formulator rather than simply copying recipes.

Module 5

Cosmetic Ingredients & Raw Materials

Learn how to choose ingredients based on function, not because they are popular. Understand oils, humectants, conditioning agents, emulsifiers, thickeners, surfactants, actives and other cosmetic raw materials — including how to read supplier information and determine appropriate usage.

Module 6

Preservation, pH & Product Safety

Learn how to formulate safer water-based hair products. Understand preservation, pH adjustment, microbial contamination, chelators, antioxidants and stability — including why a product looking and smelling fine does not automatically mean it is safe.

Module 7

Shampoo & Cleansing Systems

Learn how to make shampoo and understand how cleansing systems actually work. You will learn about surfactants, cleansing strength, foam, viscosity, conditioning and how different ingredients work together to create a complete shampoo system.

Practical formulation training includes:

How to formulate a sulfate-free shampoo
Practical video: How to make African Black Soap Shampoo
Practical formula PDFs you can follow alongside the demonstrations
How to troubleshoot and adjust a shampoo formulation

Module 8

Conditioners, Leave-Ins & Emulsion Systems

Learn how to formulate conditioners and leave-in products instead of relying on ready-made recipes. Understand emulsifying systems, conditioning ingredients, fatty alcohols, oils, water phases, viscosity and how the complete formulation creates slip, softness and manageability.

Practical formulation training includes:

How to make a rinse-out conditioner
How to make a leave-in conditioner
Understanding how conditioner and leave-in systems differ
Practical formula PDFs and formulation guidance

Module 9

Masks & Deep Treatments

Learn how to make a deep conditioner/deep treatment and understand what separates a richer treatment product from an everyday conditioner. You will learn how to build the product structure, create the desired consistency and develop a treatment around the performance you want the finished product to deliver. Includes a practical deep-conditioning treatment formula for you to study and work from.

Module 10

Oils, Butters, Greases & Anhydrous Formulation

Learn how to formulate water-free hair products properly — including oils, butters and greases. Most importantly, learn how to make an effective herbal hair growth oil rather than simply putting random herbs into oil. You will learn ingredient selection, herbal infusion, oil combinations, oxidation considerations and how to build an oil around a clear product objective.

Practical formulation training includes:

How to make a Herbal Hair Growth Oil
Practical herbal infusion demonstration
A detailed training formula using multiple hair and scalp herbs
How to choose and combine oils and herbs deliberately

Module 11

Scalp Serums & Targeted Formulation

Learn how to formulate targeted scalp serums around a specific scalp or hair-growth objective. Understand how to choose appropriate actives, build a water-based serum, select a suitable thickening system and consider solubility, preservation, pH and compatibility when adding targeted ingredients. You will receive a detailed water-based scalp serum training formula that you can use to understand the architecture before developing your own targeted version.

Module 12

Build Your Own Formula & Product Development

This is where everything comes together. Instead of being given another recipe to copy, you will learn how to develop your own product from the beginning. Start with an idea, turn it into a product brief, choose the right formulation system, research your raw materials, build your percentages to 100%, create your first prototype, evaluate it, troubleshoot problems and continue developing it until you have a formula that meets your original product objective. You will also complete your own Final Product Development Workbook, taking you through the development process step by step.

You Won’t Just Watch Someone Make Products

The practical demonstrations show you how products are made, while the lessons teach you why the formulas work.

By the end of the programme, you should not only be able to say: “I know how to make shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner or hair growth oil.”

The bigger goal is for you to understand the formulation system well enough to begin saying: “I know how to develop my own.”

This Is More Than a Recipe Class

If you only want a collection of formulas to copy, this programme is not built around that approach.

Toks Natural Formulation School is for people who want to understand how hair and scalp products are actually constructed — so that eventually you can look at a product idea and begin asking:

What am I making? What does it need to do? What system will deliver that performance? Which ingredients belong in that system — and why?

That is the difference between following a recipe and learning to formulate.

Please note: This is a digital programme. Once you access or launch the programme, your purchase is non-refundable. If you have any questions about the programme, please contact us before enrolling.
